Talk me out of this one...
5 pros and 5 cons for XLM.
Pros:
1. Fast and capable
Super fast confirmations and has a huge transaction per second capacity (lots of room to grow).
2. It's green
No wasteful mining, the network is competitive with it's efficiency.
3. It's a top 10 contender
The younger, non commercial brother of Ripple, these two had a huge run recently (be it Ripple mostly on rumours) earning them well deserved spots in the top ten, yet XLM is still as of this writing under 10B market cap with a lot of room to grow.
4. It's got positivity baked in
With the stellar foundation, the initial ethical distribution of initial Lumens, and a focus on charity and helping those who need exactly this kind of technology the most, XLM has a bright future.
5. You can earn 1% interest while you wait
Earn while you hodl! If you keep your XLM in the wallet and use one of the interest pools to earn 1% p/a (congratulations, you are already doing better than most day traders). With incentives like this to hold and accumulate, the hodl is strong with this one...
Cons:
1. Partially centralised
While not as centralised as Ripple, which is commercial, you could argue that it is more centralised than other cryptos.
2. It's not as fast as some
Some other coins may be faster than XLM, although the XLM team have so far been very active on improving the network.
3. Software needs a polish
The current wallet is a bit rough around the edges, and no mobile wallet that I can see yet. We will be seeing a 2018 roadmap released towards the end of this month. There is also nothing to stop someone building one.
4. Not as much headroom as some smaller caps
The horse has bolted, XLM is on everyones radar right now. But there is still plenty of room to grow and might be a good currency to aim on accumulating.
5. You can earn 1% interest while you wait
This is a pro and a con. The con side is, this is an inflationary currency... So while I am very bullish on XLM, it is still wise to have some of your portfolio in deflationary currencies. That said, most cryptos, including Bitcoin, are still in their inflationary stages...
After the test flight this month, XLM is off to a great 2018. And while the profit taking and FUD continues this month, I consider this one of the smartest long term investments you can make. Anything under 4000 satoshis, or 60cents represents exceptional value on this one.
