This indicator is meant to aid those who use Moving Average crosses as part of their trading strategy. This can be used to help identify turning points in trends.
You can customize what timeframe the MAs are derived from (e.g. can use current timeframe, or can hold it to 1d timeframe across all other timeframes)
When the fast and slow MAs cross each other, the background of the candle where the cross happened will be highlighted green or red (changeable), this will help visualize where the crosses are happening, regardless of whether or not you actually want the moving average lines printed on the charts. This could help keep the chart less cluttered.
Finally, you can choose between SMAs, EMAs, WMAs, and Linear MAs.

Now you have the option to change the type of each moving average independently.
So for example you could use the 9 sma with a 45 ema, like Cardwell uses with his RSI.

Now the defaults are different, and the background colors for the crosses are more transparent.
Now the default settings are 9 and 45, and can be used in combination with my new Sexy RSI indicator which also has 9 and 45 MAs on it.

Updated the script to allow for alerts to be made for the moving average crosses.
Unfortunately PineScript does not allow for variables in the default alert messages, so there is no way for me to include the trading pair symbol in the default message. I am sorry for this!

Hi thanks for this! I have been looking for an alert that will trigger when specific MAs cross - it looks like your script will do this. Sorry, but how do I make you script/indicator appear in my trading view? I'm not sure how to import it. Thank you!

@dangirdler, Hey! glad you got it added to your chart. So to set up an alert is as follows:
- Now that it's on your chart, you should see it listed underneath the ticker on the left side of your chart, where it says "MA Crosses"
To the right of that name, if you bring your mouse there, you should see to the right of it 5 symbols -> an eye, a settings cog, "{ }", "X", and ". . ."
Press on the box with ". . ." inside of it, then the first option says "Add Alert on MA crosses"
Click on that option, and then in the "conditions" section at the top, there are two drop down menus. Go into the 2nd drop down menu and the top two options are "Fast MA crosses above slow MA (long)", and "Fast MA crosses below slow MA (short)"
Then you just select what kind of alert you want, and use the below options to further modify it. I suggest setting the expiry date as far in the future as you can especially for high time frame charts.

@number_juan, Thank you so much! ...something I'm also looking into is how to set up a screening setting, to be alerted when for example a 9 crosses up through a 50 and then up through a 150, this seems a powerful MA cross...

@number_juan, Thank you big time bro!! haha if you have time or if its even possible i do not know, but to be able to add a third MA and then only show the buy signals above the third MA and sells underneath. ultimately showing signals that run in line with trend ( third MA to be higher amount than ma1&ma2 ). if its a lot then no need, just would tidy it up and improve overall signals
Thank you for this indicator. I use it on weekly time frame and have the weekly signal displayed on the daily chart. I notice that the cross over is always displayed for the 1st day of the trading week following the weekly signal. Is it possible to have the indication occur on the Friday of the signal week instead of Monday on the following week? Thanks again, much appreciated!
