ETH and BTC following similar path

As a beginning crypto trader I have a ton of questions. This is one that I think is pertinent to even advanced traders. I was under the assumption that if ETH went down most out the altcoins attached do as well... So I would just jump into BTC flavored altcoins. Now what if both go down? Do I just enjoy the ride?

The chart is one of ETH/BTC. I guess ADA IS A good choice?

Also when does XRP come back online?
