Analysis of Trend and Demand/Supply is the basic step to understand Gap correctly.
1. Breakaway Gap
Normally, Trendline break by Breakaway Gap
2. Runaway Gap (40% - 50% of whole trending range)
Normally, Gap over previous demand/supply zone
Normally, there will be a consolidation after Runaway Gap.
3. Exhaustion Gap (Near the end of a trend)
3.1 Gap into/near an high quality demand/supply zone.
3.2 Gap into an higher time frame demand/supply zone.
3.3 If it is new high, use FIB extension# to estimate the target.
I didn't have enough trading records to show the number of Runaway Gaps which completed the other 60% range.
"About 40%" is what I learned from a professional trader.
My trading samples of using Runaway Gap in tradingview ideas:
WYNN Long 4/2/2020 -- the other 60% range target reached, I closed early, small winner
SQ Long after trend line break by breakaway Gap 4/6/2020 -- the other 60% range target reached
ABT Long, demand zone confirmed 5/15/2020 -- the other 60% range target is not reached. Small winner;
ROKU Long, Double Bottom 6/8/2020 -- the other 60% range target reached
PEP Long, Uptrend consolidation 6/9/2020 -- the other 60% range target not reached, small winner
AAL Long (Add to winner in up trend) 6/10/2020 -- this is a loss
I am not a Pro trader. I need few months to work on rule based trading strategies.
Thank you for your support, and comments. Please use SIM/Demo account to try my ideas, until the trading plans get high winning rate consistently.
