Please see the VIX. VIX is on its historically low level. VIX is the calculated from the SPX option premium. Option premium tends to be high during SPX down. Now the level of VIX is quite low. This means there are more investors who want to sell the option than who want to buy. Usually option buyer expects the markets becomes volatile. The low level VIX shows many investors don't see the market goes to be volatile. I think this circumstance is unusual. The market will be volatile soon or later.
