Shareholders Filed a Lawsuit Against Centene for Misleading 2025 Outlook
Court: S.D. New York
Case: 1:25-cv-05659
On July 9, 2025, CNC shareholders filed a class action against Centene, accusing it of misrepresenting its earnings outlook and concealing risk adjustment liabilities.
What is this lawsuit about?
Between December 12, 2024, and June 30, 2025, Centene repeatedly affirmed strong 2025 guidance, citing healthy marketplace growth and stable morbidity. However, internal data reportedly showed rising medical costs and weaker-than-projected enrollment.
On July 1, Centene withdrew guidance and revealed a $1.8 billion risk adjustment shortfall across 22 states. CNC stock collapsed 40.4% in one day.
