Between December 12, 2024, and June 30, 2025, Centene repeatedly affirmed strong 2025 guidance, citing healthy marketplace growth and stable morbidity. However, internal data reportedly showed rising medical costs and weaker-than-projected enrollment.

On July 1, Centene withdrew guidance and revealed a $1.8 billion risk adjustment shortfall across 22 states. CNC stock collapsed 40.4% in one day.
