Putin says he agrees with China that tariff dispute with US should be resolved via talks

Russian President Vladimir Putin said on Thursday that he agreed with China that Beijing's tariff disagreements with the United States should be resolved through negotiations.

Putin, who said he agreed that there was a need to balance trade, was speaking in the early hours of Thursday at a meeting with senior editors of news outlets.

"I agree with our Chinese friends here - we need to do this calmly, in the course of the negotiation process, and it is absolutely possible to achieve the desired result," he said.

"I have no doubt at all that the United States will eventually come round to this."
