SOFIA (Bulgaria), May 15 (SeeNews) - Kaufland Bulgaria, a unit of German retail chain Kaufland, said on Thursday that it has invested nearly 13 million levs ($7.5 million/6.6 million euro) in the renovation of its store in the southern town of Kardzhali.

The upgrade expands the store’s built-up area by 300 square metres to a total of 5,311 square metres and increases parking capacity to 210 spots, Kaufland Bulgaria said in a press release.

The retailer has also installed a new electric vehicle charging station, capable of charging up to three cars at once.

The Kardzhali site now includes technical improvements aimed at improving energy efficiency and reducing carbon emissions, such as a heat pump system for energy-efficient heating and cooling, the use of waste heat from refrigerated display cases and fully LED lighting.

Kaufland operates 68 stores in 35 cities, employs over 7,900 staff and generates an annual turnover of more than 2 billion levs.
