Algeria’s economy expanded by 4.5% year-on-year in the first quarter of 2025 from 4.2% in the previous three-month period.

This marks the strongest growth since Q3 2023.

The increase reflected strong performance in the non-hydrocarbon sector, which grew by 5.7%, accelerating from 4.3% a year earlier—signaling continued economic diversification beyond oil and gas.

Key contributors included agriculture (+6.1%), food and tobacco industries (+5.6%), leather and footwear (+15.4%), trade (+8.9%), and transport and communications (+8.3%).

Domestic demand rose sharply by 10.4%, driven by a 13.9% increase in gross fixed capital formation and a 4.7% rise in household final consumption.
