IG ATR Risk Planner — Update Release Notes (vX.X)

IG ATR Risk Planner is a volatility-based risk management tool designed to support disciplined position sizing and trade planning. It calculates optimal stop-loss and profit targets using ATR multiples, and dynamically displays risk metrics on the chart. This update introduces leverage support, enhancing the tool for margin trading and derivative markets.

✅ New Feature: Leverage Support

The latest update adds leverage integration, allowing traders to plan position sizing and margin requirements in leveraged environments. Users can now enable leverage, specify the leverage ratio, and view the resulting margin requirement directly on the chart.

🔍 Key Enhancements

Leverage Toggle: Enable or disable leverage calculations.

Leverage Ratio Input: Set the leverage multiplier (e.g., 10x, 20x, 50x).

Margin Requirement Calculation: The tool computes the required margin based on the selected leverage and displays it in the information table.

Leverage Used Display: Shows the actual leverage applied (1x if leverage is disabled).

📌 How It Works

Position size is calculated using the selected risk method (percentage or fixed dollar amount) and ATR-based stop distance.

When leverage is enabled, the tool calculates the notional value of the position and derives the required margin using the formula:

Margin Required = Notional / Leverage

All risk metrics remain consistent, ensuring that leverage only affects margin requirements and not the underlying risk exposure.

📊 Information Table Updates

The indicator table now includes:

Leverage (Used): Displays the effective leverage.

Margin Required: Shows the capital required to open the position.

This update improves the Take Profit (TP) calculation logic to align it with proper Risk/Reward (R:R) principles.

What changed?

Previously, TP levels were calculated directly using ATR multiples, while the stop loss was based on a separate ATR multiplier.
This could lead to misleading R:R ratios (e.g. a 3 ATR stop with a 1 ATR TP does not represent a true 1:1 R:R).

With this update:

Stop Loss is still calculated as:
Stop Distance = ATR × Stop Multiplier

Take Profit levels are now calculated based on the stop distance, not raw ATR:

TP = Stop Distance × R:R value

This ensures that:

TP1, TP2, and TP3 now represent true Risk/Reward targets

Example:

Stop = 3 ATR

TP1 = 1.5R → 4.5 ATR

TP2 = 2R → 6 ATR

What did NOT change?

Entry price logic

ATR calculation

Stop placement

Position sizing logic

Leverage behavior

Chart visuals (labels & table layout)

Important clarification

Leverage does not affect TP or Stop price levels

Leverage only impacts:

Position size

Margin requirement

Account-level P&L exposure

Why this matters

This upgrade makes the indicator:

More accurate for swing and risk-based trading

Safer and clearer for public use

Fully consistent with professional risk management standards
