Volume-based S/R Levels
█ OVERVIEW
After my last indicator "Order Block Finder" was unexpectedly popular with the TradingView community, I decided to publish another experimental indicator which again tries to identify "areas of interest"
Idea:
Often candles with long wicks represent strong buying & selling pressure, especially when they are combined with extraordinary volume. Especially interesting to me are the lower wicks on red candles and the upper wicks of green candles. These wicks can potentially indicate "areas of interest" by the bigger players in the market and price may interact with these levels again in the future.
This indicator tries to identify these "high volume / long wick" candles and paints a line of either Support or Resistance from the wick into the future.
█ CALCULATION LOGIC
Extraordinary Volume is identified by first calculating thresholds based on a volume Moving Average and Standard Deviations. Two Standard Deviation Values are entered to identify HIGH and EXTREME threshold levels. The current volume is classified by comparing the volume against these thresholds.
The following inputs can be made:
- Volume MA Length
- Standard Deviation Length
- Threshold for HIGH Volume (Number of StdDev)
- Threshold for EXTREME Volume (Number of StdDev)
Another entry parameter can be used to specify the Minimum Wick Length (in % of the candle body value) which identifies a "relevant" candle. If this value is set to 0, then there is no limit and all high volume candles are considered.
The identified Support/Resistance levels are shown as lines on the chart. The parameter "Length of lines (hours)" can be used to set the length of the lines (always in hours). Depending on the timeframe, this needs to be adjusted.
(I know that this can be solved more elegantly in pine, but it was just not important to me. As always everyone is free to copy the code and make improvements. Just give me a mention when you do.)
█ DISPLAY OPTIONS
Different display options are available in the settings:
- Display Support/Resistance: Select if you want to see only Support or Resistance lines - or both
- Display High/Extreme Volume: Select if you only want to see the Extreme Value Candles or the High Value Candles or both
- Display WICK / WICK Range: Select if you only want one line at the extreme value (High/Low) of the wick - or if you want to see a range (three lines - one at the top, one at the bottom and one in the middle of the wick)
- Show Signal Triangles?: This gives the option to show little triangles on all the identified candles

This is an experimental indicator and I do not know if my theory works in real life. So treat this not as financial advise, but purely for entertainment and educational purposes.

📊 INDICATOR OVERVIEW
The T3 Moving Average is a smoothing indicator developed by Tim Tillson and published in Technical Analysis of Stocks & Commodities magazine (January 1998). The algorithm applies Generalized DEMA (Double Exponential Moving Average) recursively three times, creating a six-pole filtering effect that aims to balance noise reduction with responsiveness while minimizing lag relative to price changes.

Where v is the volume factor parameter (default 0.7). This weighted combination reduces lag while maintaining smoothness by extrapolating beyond the first EMA using the double-smoothed EMA as a reference.
T3 Calculation Process:
T3 applies the GD function three times recursively:
T3 = GD(GD(GD(Price, v), v), v)
This triple nesting creates a six-pole smoothing effect (each GD applies two EMA operations, resulting in 2 × 3 = 6 total EMA calculations). The cascading refinement progressively filters noise while preserving trend information.

First GD application: GD1 = EMA(Price) × (1 + v) - EMA(EMA(Price)) × v - Creates initial smoothed series with lag reduction

Volume Factor Impact:
The volume factor (v) is the key parameter controlling the balance between smoothness and responsiveness. Tim Tillson recommended v = 0.7 as the optimal default value.
Lower volume factors (v closer to 0.0): Increase the extrapolation effect, making T3 more responsive to price changes but potentially more sensitive to noise.
Higher volume factors (v closer to 1.0): Reduce the extrapolation effect, producing smoother output with less sensitivity to short-term fluctuations but slightly more lag.

It does three things:
1. Finds important swing highs and swing lows in price (pivots).
2. Creates support and resistance zones around those pivots using volatility (ATR).

2. What is a Pivot?
A pivot high happens when the price makes a local peak — a bar is higher than the bars around it.
A pivot low happens when the price makes a local dip — a bar is lower than the bars around it.

How it works (plain language)
Pivots: A bar is a swing high (or low) only if it’s the most extreme point compared with a set number of bars on the left and the right.
Lines:
Support connects the last two confirmed swing lows.
Resistance connects the last two confirmed swing highs.

Recency filter: Only swings within the last N bars are kept. This avoids anchoring to very old pivots far from current price.

Green Line (Support): Appears when the strategy enters "Bull Mode." This line represents the lowest low of the OBV in the recent past and acts as dynamic support.
Red Line (Resistance): Appears when the strategy enters "Bear Mode." This line represents the highest high of the OBV in the recent past and acts as dynamic resistance.
3. Signal Markers
Bull 🔼 (Green Up Triangle): This is the "Long Entry" signal. It appears at the moment the OBV first breaks out above its high-low channel.
Bear 🔽 (Red Down Triangle): This is the "Short Entry" signal. It appears at the moment the OBV first breaks down below its high-low channel.
How to Use
Add this script to the price chart of your choice.
Navigate to the "Strategy Tester" panel at the bottom of TradingView to view the backtesting results for the strategy on different assets and timeframes.
Use the "Bull" and "Bear" signals as aids in your trading decisions.

Inputs
SMA Length 1 / SMA Length 2: These are used to plot moving averages on the OBV for visual reference. They are part of the legacy logic and do not affect the new breakout strategy. However, they are kept for traders who may wish to observe their crossovers for additional confirmation.
High/Low Lookback Length: (Most Important Setting) This determines the period used to calculate the highest-high and lowest-low OBV channel. (Default is 30; adjust this to suit the asset's volatility).
A smaller value: Creates a narrower channel, leading to more frequent and faster signals, but potentially more false signals.
A larger value: Creates a wider channel, leading to fewer and slower signals, which are likely to be more significant.
