It seems that Serum wants to break out of it. Serum is a completely decentralized exchange. It's based on Solana (instead of Ethereum) and offers an order book like centralized exchanges. An exchange like this is needed in the crypto space and will gain more users eventually. Interestingly Sam Bankman-Fried, one of the leading heads in Crypto, founded it, as well as the centralized exchange FTX (He is also the community leader of SushiSwap).
