RastaRasta — Educational Strategy (Pine v5)
Momentum · Smoothing · Trend Study
Overview
The Rasta Strategy is a visual and educational framework designed to help traders study momentum transitions using the interaction between a fast-reacting EMA line and a slower smoothed reference line.
It is not a signal generator or profit system; it’s a learning tool for understanding how smoothing, crossovers, and filters interact under different market conditions.
The script displays:
A primary EMA line (the fast reactive wave).
A Smoothed line (using your chosen smoothing method).
Optional fog zones between them for quick visual context.
Optional DNA rungs connecting both lines to illustrate volatility compression and expansion.
Optional EMA 8 / EMA 21 trend filter to observe higher-time-frame alignment.
Core Idea
The Rasta model focuses on wave interaction. When the fast EMA crosses above the smoothed line, it reflects a shift in short-term momentum relative to background trend pressure. Cross-unders suggest weakening or reversal.
Rather than treating this as a trading “signal,” use it to observe structure, study trend alignment, and test how smoothing type affects reaction speed.
Smoothing Types Explained
The script lets you experiment with multiple smoothing techniques:
Type Description Use Case
SMA (Simple Moving Average) Arithmetic mean of the last n values. Smooth and steady, but slower. Trend-following studies; filters noise on higher time frames.
EMA (Exponential Moving Average) Weights recent data more. Responds faster to new price action. Momentum or reactive strategies; quick shifts and reversals.
RMA (Relative Moving Average) Used internally by RSI; smooths exponentially but slower than EMA. Momentum confirmation; balanced response.
WMA (Weighted Moving Average) Linear weights emphasizing the most recent data strongly. Intraday scalping; crisp but potentially noisy.
None Disables smoothing; uses the EMA line alone. Raw comparison baseline.
Each smoothing method changes how early or late the strategy reacts:
Faster smoothing (EMA/WMA) = more responsive, good for scalping.
Slower smoothing (SMA/RMA) = more stable, good for trend following.
Modes of Study
🔹 Scalper Mode
Use short EMA lengths (e.g., 3–5) and fast smoothing (EMA or WMA).
Focus on 1 min – 15 min charts.
Watch how quick crossovers appear near local tops/bottoms.
Fog and rung compression reveal volatility contraction before bursts.
Goal: study short-term rhythm and liquidity pulses.
🔹 Momentum Mode
Use moderate EMA (5–9) and RMA smoothing.
Ideal for 1 H–4 H charts.
Observe how the fog color aligns with trend shifts.
EMA 8 / 21 filter can act as macro bias; “Enter” labels will appear only in its direction when enabled.
Goal: study sustained motion between pullbacks and acceleration waves.
🔹 Trend-Follower Mode
Use longer EMA (13–21) with SMA smoothing.
Great for daily/weekly charts.
Focus on periods where fog stays unbroken for long stretches — these illustrate clear trend dominance.
Watch rung spacing: tight clusters often precede consolidations; wide rungs signal expanding volatility.
Goal: visualize slow-motion trend transitions and filter whipsaw conditions.
Components
EMA Line (Red): Fast-reacting short-term direction.
Smoothed Line (Yellow): Reference trend baseline.
Fog Zone: Green when EMA > Smoothed (up-momentum), red when below.
DNA Rungs: Thin connectors showing volatility structure.
EMA 8 / 21 Filter (optional):
When enabled, the strategy will only allow Enter events if EMA 8 > EMA 21.
Use this to study higher-trend gating effects.
Educational Applications
Momentum Visualization: Observe how the fast EMA “breathes” around the smoothed baseline.
Trend Transitions: Compare different smoothing types to see how early or late reversals are detected.
Noise Filtering: Experiment with fog opacity and smoothing lengths to understand trade-off between responsiveness and stability.
Risk Concept Simulation: Includes a simple fixed stop-loss parameter (default 13%) for educational demonstrations of position management in the Strategy Tester.
How to Use
Add to Chart → “Strategy.”
Works on any timeframe and instrument.
Adjust Parameters:
Length: base EMA speed.
Smoothing Type: choose SMA, EMA, RMA, or WMA.
Smoothing Length: controls delay and smoothness.
EMA 8 / 21 Filter: toggles trend gating.
Fog & Rungs: visual study options only.
Study Behavior:
Use Strategy Tester → List of Trades for entry/exit context.
Observe how different smoothing types affect early vs. late “Enter” points.
Compare trend periods vs. ranging periods to evaluate efficiency.
Combine with External Tools:
Overlay RSI, MACD, or Volume for deeper correlation analysis.
Use replay mode to visualize crossovers in live sequence.
Interpreting the Labels
Enter: Marks where fast EMA crosses above the smoothed line (or when filter flips positive).
Exit: Marks where fast EMA crosses back below.
These are purely analytical markers — they do not represent trade advice.
Educational Value
The Rasta framework helps learners explore:
Reaction time differences between moving-average algorithms.
Impact of smoothing on signal clarity.
Interaction of local and global trends.
Visualization of volatility contraction (tight DNA rungs) and expansion (wide fog zones).
It’s a sandbox for studying price structure, not a promise of profit.

❌ Avoid
This script is a context filter. Pair it with ReddingtonBotAdaptive Signal to decide when its entries are most appropriate.
What it does
Classifies the market on your chosen timeframe into:
TREND UP / TREND DOWN / CORRECTION UP / CORRECTION DOWN / RANGE.
Guides strategy selection for ReddingtonBotAdaptive Signal via a compact on-chart table.
Multi-timeframe & multi-asset: works on any symbol and exchange; calculations are performed on the selected timeframe via request.security.
Clean UI: table only (top-right). No lines, no shapes, no price-scale impact.
How it works (logic)
Uses standard, transparent components:
EMA(20) / EMA(34) — directional structure and mean.
DMI/ADX(14) — trend strength and side dominance (+DI vs −DI).
Bollinger Band Width(20) — volatility compression/expansion.
ATR(14) — normalizes EMA “confluence/flatness”.
RSI(14) — “healthy pullback” bands in corrections.
Regime definitions (summary):
TREND UP/DOWN — ADX ≥ trend threshold, +DI/−DI confirm direction, EMA20/34 aligned, not in heavy squeeze.
CORRECTION UP/DOWN — price between EMA20 and EMA34 within a trend, ADX between range/trend thresholds, RSI in pullback band.
RANGE — ADX ≤ range threshold and/or EMAs “confluent” (flat) with low BB Width.
Playbook mapping for ReddingtonBotAdaptive Signal
The panel renders a line like: ST ✅ MACD ✅ BB ⚠ SC ✅ CT ❌
TREND UP / TREND DOWN
ST ✅, MACD ✅, SC ✅, BB ⚠, CT ❌
Trade with trend. For BB, prefer confirmed expansion (BB Width ↑ & ADX ↑).
CORRECTION UP / CORRECTION DOWN
ST ✅, SC ✅, MACD ⚠, BB ⚠, CT ❌
Wait for impulse resumption (ADX uptick / BBW expansion) after EMA20/VWAP retest.
RANGE
SC ✅, CT ⚠, ST ❌, MACD ❌, BB ❌/⚠
Mean-reversion/scalps inside the corridor; BB only if early expansion emerges.
✅/⚠/❌ are heuristics. Tune thresholds per asset/timeframe if needed.
Inputs (essentials)
Regime timeframe — empty = use chart TF.
ADX Trend/Range Thresholds — default 25 / 20.
EMA Fast/Slow — 20 / 34.
BB Width Length — 20.
ATR Length — 14.
EMA confluence vs ATR (×ATR) — flatness sensitivity (default 0.20).
BBW squeeze factor (vs BBW SMA) — compression sensitivity (default 0.90).
Correction RSI bands — pullback zones for up/down trends.
Show Playbook — toggle recommendations row.
How to use with ReddingtonBotAdaptive Signal
Filter first, then act: take Adaptive entries only when the Playbook shows ✅ for that strategy in the current regime.
Confirm at bar close on the regime timeframe to avoid MTF “in-bar” fluctuations.
Best practice:
Trading TF: 5–15m
Regime filter TF: 15m–1h
Raise ADX Trend to 28–30 on noisy assets; set BBW squeeze to 1.0 on volatile alts.
Notes & limitations
This is an analytical tool, not an entry/exit system.
No alerts by design (panel only). You can add alerts in your entry script.
MTF values update until the higher-TF bar closes; for strict discipline, use confirmed bars.

Current State: Overbought/Oversold + Trend KAPIL GOYALThis Pine Script calculates the RSI (Relative Strength Index) and compares it against preset thresholds to classify the market as Deep/Moderate/Mild Oversold or Deep/Moderate/Mild Overbought. It also checks whether the current price is above or below the 50-day moving average to define the trend as Uptrend or Downtrend. The script then combines both signals into one clean, real-time text output—like “Moderate Oversold + Uptrend”—displayed in a small table at the chart corner. It’s designed to give a quick, clutter-free snapshot of the current market state without plotting multiple indicators.
How to use:
Apply this indicator to any chart (e.g., Tesla on TradingView). It will show one line of text describing the current condition based on RSI and trend. Use it for quick decision cues:
“Oversold + Uptrend” suggests potential accumulation or rebound zones.
“Overbought + Downtrend” warns of exhaustion or profit-taking zones.
Combine it with your entry/exit strategy—like your 30DMA/50DMA rule or momentum filters—to confirm timing rather than act alone.

Moving Average ProjectionDisplays 2-5 moving averages (solid lines) and projects their future trajectory (dashed lines) based on current trend momentum. This helps you anticipate where key MAs are heading and identify potential future support/resistance levels.
Important: Projections show where MAs would move IF the current trend continues—they're not predictions. Market conditions change, so use projections as planning tools, not trading signals.
General Settings
Number of MAs (2-5) controls how many moving averages display on your chart. Start with 2-3 to avoid clutter. Projection Bars (1-100) determines how far into the future to project—use 10-20 for intraday charts and 20-40 for daily charts. Lookback for Slope (2-100) sets the number of bars used to calculate trend slope, where shorter lookbacks are more responsive and longer ones are smoother. The default of 20 works well for most situations.
Individual MA Settings (MA 1-5)
Each MA has four settings: Length sets the period for the MA (common values are 9, 20, 50, 100, and 200), Type lets you choose between SMA, EMA, WMA, HMA, VWMA, or RMA (EMA is most popular), Color sets the historical MA line color, and Projection Color sets the projected line color (usually a lighter or transparent version of the main color).
MA Types Quick Reference: EMA is most popular and responsive to recent prices. SMA gives equal weight to all periods and is the smoothest. HMA is very responsive with low lag. VWMA incorporates volume data.
Quick Setup Examples
Day Trading: 3 MAs (9/21/50 EMA), 10-15 projection bars, 10-15 lookback
Swing Trading: 2 MAs (50/200 EMA), 20-30 projection bars, 20 lookback
Scalping: 2 MAs (9/20 EMA), 5-10 projection bars, 5-10 lookback
How to Use
Trend Identification: An uptrend shows price above rising MAs with projections pointing up. A downtrend shows price below falling MAs with projections pointing down. Consolidation appears as flat MAs with horizontal projections.
Support & Resistance: Rising MA projections act as future dynamic support levels, while falling MA projections act as future dynamic resistance levels.
Anticipating Changes: Watch for projected MA crossovers before they happen. When projections converge, expect volatility or consolidation. Steep projections suggest unsustainable trends, so be cautious. Flat projections indicate ranging markets.
Trade Planning: Check the current trend using MA alignment, then look at projections to gauge trend continuation likelihood. Use projected MA levels for potential targets or stop placement.
Important Tips
When Projections Work Best: Projections are most reliable in stable trending markets with consistent momentum, low volatility environments, and away from major news events.
When to Be Cautious: Use caution during high volatility or choppy price action, around major economic releases, when projections show extreme or parabolic angles, and during trend transitions.
Combine With Other Analysis: Don't trade projections alone. Use them alongside price action, volume, support and resistance levels, and other indicators for confirmation.
Best Practices
Start with 2-3 MAs to avoid chart clutter. Match your projection and lookback bars to your trading timeframe. Use consistent color schemes for quick interpretation. Adjust settings as market conditions change. Always use proper risk management—projections are planning tools, not guarantees.
Troubleshooting
Projections not showing: Check that Projection Bars > 0 and you're viewing the most recent bar
Chart too cluttered: Reduce number of MAs or increase projection color transparency
Projections too volatile: Increase lookback bars or switch to EMA/SMA from HMA
Can't see certain MAs: Verify "Number of MAs" setting includes them (MA 3 won't show if set to 2)

1. It fetches the 350-day SMA value (`sma350_daily`).
2. It checks where the *last closed* 2-Week candle finished relative to this SMA line.
3. If the 2W candle closed *above* the 350 SMA, the line is colored GREEN.
4. If the 2W candle closed *below* the 350 SMA, the line is colored RED.
This helps to visualize the long-term trend (350 SMA) confirmed by a higher (2W) timeframe bias, using non-repainting logic (`close `) for the color signal.
